Bacteria-containing plaque constantly builds up on the teeth and must be removed daily. Plaque that is not removed can harden into tartar and can eventually lead to periodontal disease. To maintain good oral hygiene, the American Dental Association recommends brushing your teeth twice daily and flossing at least once per day. We suggest using an ADA approved fluoride toothpaste with a soft-bristle brush that fits your mouth comfortably, allowing you to reach all areas easily. It is also important to clean between the teeth once a day with dental floss or inter-dental cleaners. This will remove plaque and food particles from between the teeth, areas where your toothbrush just can‰t reach. Just remember, you only have to floss the teeth you want to keep! It is important that you talk to your dentist or dental hygienist about
what oral care products will be effective for you, as needs vary amongst
everyone. You should replace your toothbrush every three to four months, or sooner if
the bristles become warn and frayed. A worn toothbrush will not do a good job
of cleaning your teeth. Homecare recommendations may include: prescription fluoride toothpaste or
rinse, medicated mouth rinse to control bacteria, as well as advanced electric
tooth brushes such as the RotoDent. All of the products mentioned are available at our
office. Please contact our office if you have any questions about homecare products. Angela Berkovich - cosmetic and restorative dentistry
